Welcome to Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Bowling Green is located in Warren County and it is the county seat. It lies along U.S. Highway 231 near the Green River. In the early 1790s, pioneer settler Robert Moore built a cabin near a large spring at what later became Bowling Green. The settlement was gradually established as a commercial and transportation center of the southcentral Kentucky area, becoming the county seat in 1809 and incorporated in 1812.
Today, Bowling Green, with a population of 48,300, covers an area of 35 square miles, which include 20 parks.
Its average annual temperature 59.1 degrees and the average yearly rainfall is 48.86 inches. Bowling Green is home to Western Kentucky University. In addition to the university, the area's top employers are Commonwealth Health Corporation, Warren County Board of Education and the General Motors Corvette Plant. Bowling Green is often called the Corvette Capital of the World. The National Corvette Museum there displays more than 50 rare versions of the cars.

The Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac XLR are made in a General Motors plant in Bowling Green; the National Corvette Museum is near the plant. The city is also home to Western Kentucky University. Famed food critic Duncan Hines was a Bowling Green native.
It is a shipping and marketing center for an area producing tobacco, corn, livestock, and dairy items. General Motors assembles Corvettes there, and a Corvette museum opened in 1994. Bowling Green was occupied by the Confederates from the beginning of the Civil War until the Union advance forced them to retreat in 1862.
The city is the seat of Western Kentucky Univ. Nearby is Mammoth Cave, a popular tourist attraction. To the southwest lie the ruins of a Shaker settlement established in 1798.
